Grey’s Anatomy: Sandra Oh Chose Yang as Cristina’s Last Name Instead of…

10Cristina Yang andSandra Oh are two names that will always go together in the minds of Grey’s Anatomy fans — even with Sandra leaving the show this season — but we’re only now learning that the actress actually had a hand in naming her iconic character.

Sandra was a guest of honor on the May 13 episode of Chelsea Lately, and she talked about choosing Cristina’s surname.

“The crew gave me this wonderful gift, and on it was the very first call sheet of the pilot,” she recounted. “And I didn’t even remember my last name was Madison. It was, like, Cristina Madison or something — ’cause that’s what it was on the call sheet. And so when we were coming up with ideas, [Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes] asked me, ‘What do you think your last name should be?’ And then I first went, Park, Song… Not Kim because that’s too common a Korean name … Then I came up with Yang, so there you go.”

Sandra’s seemingly arbitrary choice puzzled the host. “Just because?” Chelsea asked.

“I grew up with the Yangs in Ottawa, in Canada,” the 42-year-old elaborated. “And it was Mr. and Mrs. Yang and their four daughters. I remember Lisa, Millie, someone, and someone.

“Do you still talk to them?” Chelsea asked — to which Sandra replied, “No.”

“Oh, well, good luck to them,” Chelsea quipped.

Grey’s Anatomy: Patrick Dempsey Offers to Teach Adam Levine How to Race!

62World, meet our ideal celebrity hot guy BFFs. McDreamy Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey has officially offered also McDreamy Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine racing lessons. Yes, people: This is an actual thing that really happened.

It all started when Adam announced on Twitter last week that he is ready to enter the next phase in his career: Pro racer. Singer, coach on The Voice… obviously, driver is the next logical step.

“I absolutely must become a racecar driver now,” Adam tweeted. “It just feels right.”

The cool thing about racecars? Other than, you know, the word “racecar” is spelled the same backwards and forwards? Our boy Patrick is actually somewhat of a racing aficionado… if you consider a guy with his own racing company an aficionado, of course. And since he’s such a sweet guy, he quickly jumped in to offer Adam a lesson or two.

“Hey @adamlevine my team @GoDempseyRacing and I can show you how to be a racecar driver,” Patrick said on May 16. “Follow us and visit us on the track.”

Fingers crossed that this actually becomes a reality, and that an eventual Dempsey vs. Levine faceoff is broadcast on national television. Please, please, please?

And maybe, once they’re actually besties (having bonded over racecars and all), Adam will be game for a guest spot on Grey’s. Attractive patient one of the doctors falls in love with? Sounds like a solid role for Adam to us.

Grey’s Anatomy: Isaiah Washington to Star in a Play With Sandra Oh?

san and washingtonDid you love Burke’s big return to Grey’s Anatomy — and how Cristina finally got closure after Burke left her at the altar all those years ago? You may get another reunion! In a recent interview,Isaiah Washington hinted that he and Sandra Oh may be paired up again soon… this time, on stage.

According to local ABC affiliate WWAY, Isaiah mentioned that he and Sandra have talked about starring together in the Shakespearean homage Macbeth in Africa, with Sandra playing Lady Macbeth. How crazy would that be?

Isaiah’s been talking about his own take on Shakespeare’s classic play for awhile now. Back in 2013, he contemplated turning the play into a movie set in Africa with a cast he hand-selected himself. No word on what Sandra wants to do, although we do know she’s got a few film projects lined up. She’ll undoubtedly be a busy lady, Grey’s or no Grey’s!

“It brought me back to those moments seven years ago — just how organic the way Sandra and I worked,” Isaiah said of his return to the show. “I had genuine doubts that maybe this wasn’t a good idea … But I’m glad I did, and I’m still excited about what happened. I’m very proud.”

Grey’s Anatomy’s Sandra Oh Recalls Saying Goodbye to Ellen Pompeo

san and ellenGrey’s Anatomy‘s Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) were and always will be each other’s “person,” even though the former left Seattle in the May 15 Season 10 finale. And it sounds like Sandra and Meredith share an equal connection, from what she tells The Hollywood Reporter.

On the topic of her last scene with Ellen, the 42-year-old actress points out that scene’s part in a trend she noticed over her last years with the show.

“My three most difficult scenes in the past three years have all been the same scene number,” Sandra says. “There was an episode in Season 6 that I did with [Kevin McKidd] where I talked about Burke — the ‘Pieces of Me’ speech. That was Scene 44; I could barely get through it. Then in this season’s Burke episode, when Cristina equalized herself with Burke — that was Scene 44; it was really challenging. In the finale, Scene 44 was an extremely important scene between Meredith and Cristina. I remember reading it, and I hated the scene. “

Hated the scene? Huh? She explains:

“It made no sense to me, and I couldn’t connect to it. But sometimes the place that is the most resistant is, a lot of the times, the place to mine … In the context of the scene, it means something else because Cristina is trying to leave and can’t because she doesn’t feel finished. What was challenging for me was, I was finishing.”

And finally, the “I am not finished” line resonated with her — having realized that it was about morethan just Cristina’s work at the hospital. “I cannot tell you how much that line means to me,” she says.

At least Sandra had such a reliable scene partner for such a nuanced moment: “It was deeply emotional. It was the last scene that Ellen and I shot. I can’t speak for how it was for her to shoot that, but at the very end, I remember feeling for our chests embracing. I’m holding her, and I can hear that she’s tearing up. I was holding her, and it felt like we were one body.”

Grey’s Anatomy’s Camilla Luddington Wants to Be the Pink Ranger in New Power Rangers Film

6061Grey’s Anatomy‘s Camilla Luddington (Jo Wilson) wants to mighty-morph into a role beloved by Gen Y television fans: Kimberly Hart, the Pink Ranger!

The 30-year-old British actress tweeted on May 8 that she wants in on the just announced big-screen reboot of the Power Rangers franchise. “OMG!” she wrote. “Please can I play the #pinkranger!”

In case you missed the news, Lionsgate announced it is teaming up with Saban Brands to make a new film based on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series, which itself was adapted from a Japanese series.

The original American series ran from 1993 to 1995. The franchise has since spawned 19 other TV series — Dino ThunderOperation OverdriveMegaforce! — and two motion pictures.

We could totally see Camilla playing Kimberly — she even looks a little bit like the original Kimberly, actress Amy Jo Johnson — but it might not work out for the Grey’s star. Deadline reports Lionsgate’s new film series will focus on power-ranging high-schoolers. Camilla, you look young, but maybe not that young.

Will Sandra Oh Watch Her Last Grey’s Anatomy Episode? “Dinnertime Might Get in the Way”

SANDRA OHWe’re definitely going to be parked on the edge of our seats in front of the television tomorrow night (May 15) for Grey’s Anatomy‘s explosive Season 10 finale, especially because it marks the last episode for Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang). But Sandra herself may not be joining us!

In a recent conversation with The Canadian Press, the 42-year-old actress seems ambivalent about tuning in to see her final installment on the show, particularly because she finds watching her own acting to be “kind of unbearable.”

“Maybe I should watch it,” she muses. “I guess I’ll watch it at home. I don’t know! Dinnertime might get in the way. I don’t know! … I’ll probably just watch it by myself here at home.”

“But I feel like I want to say goodbye on my own time that’s not on, like, Thursday nights at 9 o’clock,” she continues.

“So if … it feels right to me, then I’ll watch it. And if it doesn’t, then I’ll watch it in ten years from now or whenever it feels right.”

Well, we think she’s being too modest… and that the only “unbearable” prospect is that of a Cristina-less Grey’s!

Grey’s Anatomy: Support Kevin McKidd’s Charity — and Skype With Him!

243Always wanted to meet one of the cast members from Grey’s Anatomy? Now might be your big chance to chat with one from the comfort of your own home. Kevin McKidd (Owen Hunt) is offering up the opportunity to Skype with him to fans who donate to support his charity — and his upcoming mountain climb — called the Scottish Cot Death Trust.

“Cot death” is known as SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome in the US. Kevin and his friends Iaian Robertson and Guy Cowan (who have the most Scottish names ever) are teaming up to raise money for research for the cause, and to raise awareness, the guys will be climbing Ben Nevis, otherwise known as the highest peak in the British Isles. Wow!

“As a parent I can’t even begin to imagine what the loss of a child would feel like,” Kevin said. “I hope people dig deep to help the Scottish Cot Death Trust continue to offer much needed support and assistance. It’s great to be home and taking in the Scottish scenery again and helping out such a good cause in the process.”

Want to get up close and personal with Kevin? Get ready to pony up a donation. It’ll cost you just over $500 to score that Skype call, and $250 for a personal voice message from Kevin. On a budget but still want to contribute? $17 will get you an autograph! Not too shabby.

Grey’s Anatomy’s Isaiah Washington Headed For Scandal? He’s In Talks, He Says

isaiah washingtonAfter making a return to Grey’s Anatomy to provide closure for Burke and his relationship to Cristina (Sandra Oh), Isaiah Washington has another Shonda Rhimes show in his sights: Scandal.

The actor talked about the possibility of getting Scandal-ous in an interview with WWAY of Wilmington, NC. He was in town to film the movie The Sin Seer, and he took up a local news producer’s Twitter offer to watch his Grey’s reprise with her.

So of course, the news station nabbed the opportunity for a live interview with him after the episode — during which the reporter asked him about an, ahem, anonymous tip that Isaiah was headed to Scandal.

“I thought that was off the record,” Isaiah deadpanned, sending the interview into a moment of awkward silence before both he and the reporter burst into laughter.

“Well, there’s some talks. There’s some possibilities out there. I did tweet it. I am pushing it. It would be fun to show up on Scandal. Down the road. Down the road.”

This could just be wishful thinking on his part, but we wouldn’t be surprised if he did indeed pop up at Olivia Pope & Associates especially because he still has a big fan in Shonda. “Isaiah is a person that we all love and have loved for a very long time,” she told Entertainment Weekly.

Caterina Scorsone Joining Grey’s Anatomy Full-Time? “I’d Do 500 Episodes”

59Fans of Private Practice got a special treat on the episode of Grey’s Anatomy last night, April 24, when Caterina Scorsone reprised her Private role as Derek’s (Patrick Dempsey) sister Amelia Shepherd.

Even better, the 32-year-old actress will stick around for the rest of Season 10. But should we get used to seeing Amelia every week? Could Caterina become a Grey’s Anatomy series regular in the all-but-confirmed Season 11?

TV Fanatic floats the idea past her, and she sounds totally game!

“I think that I would do anything for [creator] Shonda [Rhimes]!” she enthuses. “I think she’s such a remarkable woman and showrunner and creative genius, and I think if she wanted me to do one episode, I would do one episode, and if she wanted me to do 500 episodes, I’d do 500 episodes. We’ll see what she has planned for you and then we’ll go from there!”

And our second-favorite neurologist named Shepherd will get out of the McDreamhouse and into the hospital in next week’s episode — Season 10, Episode 22: “We Are Never Getting Back Together” — as she and Derek operate on conjoined twins. Not only that, but she’s slowly but surely bonding with her sister-in-law.

“Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Amelia do start to forge a bit of a relationship, which they never really had before,” Caterina tells the site. “They didn’t really have an opportunity to get close until now … and it turns out that Derek has pretty good taste in women!”

Grey’s Anatomy Season 10 Finale: Does Cristina Live or Die? The Answer Is…

san and sarahWhen we first heard Sandra Oh would be leaving Grey’s Anatomy at the end of this season, a burning question popped into our heads: Will Cristina die? Creator Shonda Rhimes is known for writing characters off her show via tragic (and usually emotionally scarring) deaths and we’d be so sad (but not shocked) if Cristina left the show in a body bag filled with our tears.

But according to TV Line, it doesn’t sound like Cristina’s end will be too violent. Although we already know we can expect a terrorism-fueled disaster, it sounds like Grey Sloan’s part is just in receiving and caring for the victims. In fact, the new spoiler reveals that the attack is “a backdrop to the episode’s main event: Cristina’s emotional (and non-deadly) exit.”

Was that a collective sigh of relief we just heard? Don’t worry. Us, too. We’ve been worried for months that Cristina would go out the way Mark (Eric Dane) and Lexie (Chyler Leigh) did, and that would be absolutely heartbreaking. We can’t go through that again!

The biggest plus to Cristina leaving alive? Her character can return, and not as a ghost, either — Denny, we’re looking at you. We don’t expect to see Cristina back again for a while, but it would be awesome if she was, you know, alive to make a cameo in the eventual series finale.
